Due to the state the world was in, the winter felt especially dark and lonesome during the COVID lockdowns. ‘Winterblues’ is a series of drawings created while listening to pop songs from the 80s. The cheerful, though often melancholic, melodies make room for a moment of contradictory silence. The repetitiveness of drawing makes time slow down. The melodies and lyrics of the pop songs intertwine with my own thoughts and memories, creating figurative and surrealistic fragments, stories and wordplay. (2021)
